Built in 1953 for the United States Air Force,
#4040, a BLH RS-4-TC, was among some of the last locomotives ever built at Baldwin's Eddystone, PA shops. After serving overseas, (primarily in Morocco), #4040 was brought back stateside, rebuilt with updated internals at the Tooele (UT) Army Depot, and assigned to Selfridge Air Base. There, 4040 transported inbound coal trains received from the Grand Trunk Western to the base's coal-fired power plant. After rail service was discontinued in the mid-1990's, Selfridge donated the locomotive to the MTM, where it still operates today in regular passenger service. |
